For You Train Lovers.
As these mighty diesels pass they shake the earth.
I watch this Mississippi River railroad bridge swing open to let a tug with its barges pass beneath. As I paddle downriver I hear the loud blast from a train’s horn in Wisconsin. He's asking for permission to continue on. I catch it as it breaks from Wisconsin’s thick woods on its way to Minnesota.

The 1984 BNSF railroad lift bridge at Prescott (WI) spans the Saint Croix River, connecting Minnesota and Wisconsin. Everything about this 615 foot bridge is massive, as is the weight of the double stacked cars now passing above.

The vintage Osceola & St. Croix Valley Railway Train is making its way back to Wisconsin. This train is packed full of tourists taking in St. Croix River Valley autumn colors this mid-October afternoon.

On my 86 mile paddle on the Mississippi River from Wabasha (MN) to Victory City (IA) I couldn't help but marvel at our railroad transportation system, especially those mighty diesels pulling 100 cars and more.

As I wait to be picked up in Victory City, I capture the BNS 3812 just a few feet away as it heads south to a destination unknown. Its earth shaking tremors and strong gusts of wind from this fast passing train nearly knocks me off my feet.
